 Importing Citations Into Endnote
 

Instructions for Individual Databases

Academic Search Premier (Ebsco)

1.  Access Academic Search Premier from the Library's database list.  (Off campus users need to enter their NetID and NetID password.)

2.  Enter search terms in the Find box.

3.  Select citations to export to Endnote using ADD to folder icon  under each reference.

4.  Click on the Folder icon labelled "Folder" located in the top menu barof the search screen.

 

5.  Click on the box next to each citation you would like to export.

6.  Click the Export icon above the reference list.

7.  Under the Save citations to a file formatted for menu, select Direct Export to Endnote, Procite, or Reference Manager.

8.  Click Save.

9.  Select the Endnote Library you would like to save your citations to or create a new Endnote Library.

10.  Click Open.

11.  The citations are imported into your Endnote library.

Biological Abstracts (Ovid)

1.  Access Biological Abstracts for the Library's database list.  (Off campus users need to enter their NetID and NetID password.)

2.  Enter search terms in the Basic or Advanced Search box and click search.

3.  Select records to export by clicking the box next to the record.

4.  After selecting references for export, go to the Results manager menu on the side bar and select  the Direct Export option under the results format.

5.  Under the Fields box, select complete citation or citation + abstract

6.  Under the Actions portion of the menu box, click on SAVE.

7.  Select the Endnote library to export the citations to.

8.  Click Open.

9.  The citations are imported into your Endnote library.

 

*** Please note the following limitations when importing citations from Biological Abstracts (Ovid) to your Endnote Library.(Information from Endnote Filter file).

  •   Biological Abstracts does not place separators between last and first names.  Author names with imbedded spaces in the last name will be imported improperly.  For example, Van Der Kellen Stephanie will be imported as Van, Der Kellen Stephanie.   
  • Biological Abstracts meeting records are imported into Endnote with some inconsistencies in record classification.  Some are classified as a conference proceeding, others journal articles, etc.

CrossFireplus Reactions Beilstein & Gmelin

1. Search for Substances, Reactions or Citations in either Beilstein or Gmelin.***

2. Click Export Hits.
3. Select Procite/Endnote/Reference Manager.
4. Select All, Current or a Range of Citations.
5. Click START.
6. Name the File.
7. Save the file as ASCii Text(*.txt).
8. Open your Endnote Library.
9. Click on FILE> Import from the upper menu bar.
10. Click on Browse to find the saved citations file.
11. Click on Reference Manager (RIS) next to IMPORT OPTION.
12. Click on IMPORT.

Google Scholar

1.  Go to Google Scholar:  www.google.com/scholar

2.  Click on the "Scholar Preferences" link.

3.  Next to Bibliographic manager, click "Show links to import citations to" and change BibTex to Endnote.

4.  Click on Save Preferences.

Once you set this up, the option to "Import into Endnote" will appear under citations in the Google Scholar results list.

5.  Click on Import into endnote for the citation you want to add to your Endnote Library.

6.  Click on Open in the dialog box and select the Endnote library to import into.

1.  Access  Philosopher's Index  from the Library's database list.  (Off campus users need to enter their NetID and NetID password.)2.  Enter search terms in the Find box.

2.  Enter search terms in the Find box.

3.  Select citations to export to Endnote using ADD to folder icon  under each reference.

 

4.  Click on the Folder icon labelled "Folder" located in the top menu barof the search screen.

 

5.  Click on the box next to each citation you would like to export.

6.  Click the Export icon above the reference list.

7.  Under the Save citations to a file formatted for menu, select Direct Export to Endnote, Procite, or Reference Manager.

8.  Click Save.

9.  Select the Endnote Library you would like to save your citations to or create a new Endnote Library.

10.  Click Open.

11.  The citations are imported into your Endnote library.

 

 

PubMed

1.    Access PubMed from the Library's database list or go to www.pubmed.gov

2.    Enter search terms in the  search box.

3.    Click on the box next to each citations you are selecting for export.

4.    Open the Display menu above the results set and select MEDLINE.

5.    Click on the arrow next to the SEND TO menu box.

6.    Select File from the list.

7.    Click on SAVE.

8.    Name the file and click SAVE.

9.    Open Endnote and open your library or create a new library.

10.  Go to File> Import.

11.  Click on Browse to select the Data file for import.

12.  Click on the arrow next to the import option menu box.

13.  Select Other Filters from the list.

14.  Scroll to and highlight PubMed (NLM).  Click Choose.

15.  Next to the duplicates menu, select your preference for importing duplicate records.

16.  Click Import.

 SciFinder Scholar

1.    Enter your search terms in SciFinder Scholar

2.    Click the box next to each reference you want to export to Endnote.

3.    Click on Save AS  from the top menu.

4.    Name the file and change the Save as type to the Tagged format [*txt.] . 

5.    Open Endnote and open your library or create a new library.

6.    Go to File> Import.

7.    Click on Browse to select the Data file for import.

8.    Click on the arrow next to the import option menu box.

9.    Select Other Filters from the list.

10.  Scroll to and highlight SciFinder (CAS).  Click Choose.

11.  Next to the duplicates menu, select your preference for importing duplicate records.

12.  Click Import.
